I was wondering for those who used those TCL's rom on their Emax mini phones, if there is an improvement of the battery life and performance?

Looks very interesting, I will consider this method if UMI doesn't update the device. Good work

I am using this Mokee (cm12.1-based) rom. Performance is the same (I think it was OK in stock), battery life is slightly better, but not a lot.
The obvious benefits are that it is 5.1.1, and all the CM added functionalities.

Is it me, or this phone lags a lot. I came from a Samsung S3 Neo, with lower specs than eMAX mini, but I never experienced lag on the UI, or in games, even with stockrom, everything is fluid, no stutters - and I've compared both with games like Real Racing 3.

I didn't tried with stock rom. I've used Mokee for TCL M3G, and now I'm trying Airom. Same lag and not so good performance on both.

I'm disappointed with eMAX mini performance. Is it just me? : )

Hey Johnnyjoe, in my opinion I think the emax mini is not good for playing new 3d games, it has only 2Gb of ram, the Snapdragon 615 is the 1st 64bit and octacore made by qualcomm, I think it is made for better battery life. Juicy battery more than power energy consumer is the goal maybe, experienced like some Intel atom procs, that's why it lags sometimes. One week now I own it, I charge only every morning before I go to work. It's better than all my previous android phones.

Hi! Thanks for the reply. My Samsung S3 Neo was Qualcomm Quadcore 1.4mhz, with a Adreno 305 (450mhz) and 1,5gb of ram, and even with stockrom and no additional mods (Touchwiz, wich is way heavier than CM), I never experienced lag or stutter, doing the same things, playing the same games. That's why I'm not happy with lags or stuttering.

Antuntu on the S3 was like 24000 something after overclock it to 1.6mhz, and playing with the kernel. The max I've got with eMAX mini was 30000 something - with Airom, and before installing more apps, but normally I get something around 27.000 and 28.000.

So, I'm hoping that the phone gets better with updates. : )

UMI Emax Mini / TCL M3G LCD urgently needed!

Hello,
I was happy user of TCL M3G (Umi emax mini, Kruger&Matz Live 3) untill yesterday!
My daughter drop it on the tailed floor - screen face down!
Now screen is broken, 50% of a screen isn't responding and I got stuck with that.

There is nothing impossible to me because I can replace LCD by myself but... There is no LCD replacement available AT ALL!! I checked: aliexpress, whole internet and universe and... NOTHING!

Can someone of you recommend where to buy it?
I asked already some of aliexpress sellers but no success.

I'm begging... please Help!

Battery draining quickly

I wonder what happens to my phone, one month now I own the Umi emax mini. The data service always activated (facebook, gmail, google+ and messenger in background), the gps 2 hours max, 15 calls approximately per day, in normal use, the battery last 1 day and a half. But since my contract was renewed this month, the battery drains so fast, it goes off after 12 hours only.:( I suspect some malicious apps running as spyware. Can you help me please, I don't know what to do.

New ROM update avalaible

Did someone try this new update from Umi community ? The flash method seems very easy to use. I'd like to compare with mine which is UMI eMAX mini_001_10/23/2015. all looks like stock except the appdrawer when I received it. How about battery life ?

As it says right there on the post you are linking, this update only does three things:
  • Add new languages
  • Disable OTA updates
  • Remove some chinese apps
That's all, so you shouldn't really expect anything about battery life or performance to change.

eMAX mini updated to ver. 11/17/2015

So finally I updated my Umi eMAX mini to the newer version mini_001_11/17/2015, lagged of battery drain by the older version. One week now I use it, it feels a little faster, no lag ( I mean the app execution didn't wait a few sec before doing its job), it comes with a ton of language, some unnecessary apps are removed but you can add all your favorite apps from playstore. With data always on, the battery is good enough in standby but it'll drain when you play a long time with.
Nice week end for all.

Pros : Faster, no lag, quick fix gps, good camera, everything quite good.
Cons : No nfc, no band 20, alarm too loud even in low volume, cast screen option missing.

Do you need recovery to put the phone in download mode, so you can flash the original rom?

To put UMI eMAX Mini into downloader mode for flashing:

Power off your phone - if your phone is in boot loop, you can power it off by keeping pressed the power button for about 10 seconcs. If your phone can't power off but always restarts, jump immediately to step 2. when you perceive/hear the vibration.
Connect your phone to USB and immediately (after the vibration) press and keep pressed all the 3 side-buttons until you see the Warning screen - just wait for the next vibration if your screen doesn't work because incompatible ROM is installed.
Long press the Vol-up button until the screen gets dark - If your screen doesn't work, watch the Windows device manager and release the button when the HS-USB QDLoader 9008 appears among the COM ports.

Exactly the same here. Device is dead, throw it away. UMI is a piece of sh.t.

Did you try the umi forum? Maybe someone is able to help you there, not much activity here. Best of luck! : )

Unboxing & Review Received from Coolicool :

Review Umi EMax Mini (Sorry for the translation, i've used Google)
    Package, Content, Aesthetics:

The pack is now a classic for the latest products Umi, a square box of a generous size with treatment embossed silver; on the back there is a label with the model and IMEI numbers.
Box contents: Smartphone with pre-applied protective film screen, 1 AC outlet with USB 5V 1A White Italian and 1 USB Cable TV; no headphone is extra protective films.
    - External dimensions of the smartphone to be a very compact 5 "; it measures 139.9 x 69.8 x 8.5mm for a little more than 130g weight.
    - Construction of good quality, the materials return a good feeling to the touch, the metallic finish of the side frame and processing cover embellish smartphone.
    - On the left side we find keys, and the right side we find the volume rocker on the top and the power button slightly lower.
    - At the top we are the only audio jack; on the underside there is the Micro USB socket and the speakek (only in the right part, since the symmetrical opening on the left has no speaker inside).
    - In the back at the top center we are the 13 megapixel camera from Sony / Samsung f / 2.2, slightly below the flash with dual led to even lower the microphone.
    - In the front we find the earpiece at the top, the camera 8Mpixel f / 2.2 and light sensors / proximity.
    - The soft touch buttons are three and except the center button circular, the sides are backlit.
    - Cover removable; the presence of a knurled machining, allows to obtain very good grip.
    - Outer pane with pre-applied film from the house; the glass does not seem to work rounded perimeter.
    - Display brightness and good viewing angles; Full HD IPS LCD screen with colors well played, good sharpness for the category, and white balance after all good and very deep black.
    - Touch-sensitive and comes with multitouch 5 touches, writing quickly and accurately with both function that Swype typing with two fingers (keyboard used google)
    - Two sim slots: Two Micro Sim 4G (with dynamic selection software).
    - Presence slot MicroSD up to 64Gb (tested).
    - Battery is not removable from 3050mAh declared, to the test with amperomento we found about 2950mAh, which can cover the busy day with no problem.
    - Android 5.0.2 without any customization (if we omit icons) and launcher Onetouch (that of TCL M3G 3S).
    - Opening apps and switching between apps is not without some small hitch browser .. stock fairly accessible but suggest that Chrome while consuming a lot of ram speeds up navigation.
    - Excellent management 16Gb of internal ROM that are available in a 11GB partition for apps and data.
    - Good management 2Gb ram by Android 5.0.2 .. more than 930Mb of ram vacated after loading some apps into memory at startup.

    Connectivity:
WiFi b / g with no problem hooking stable, good power (presence of dual band).
BT 4 tested pairing with headsets, car and other smartphones without problems
    OTG: Properly functioning
GPS: good, the outside has fixato cold in 20 seconds, 12 satellites, with an accuracy of a few meters; GLONASS compatibility and Baidu

    Camera:
    - Main camera 13Mpixel f / 2.2 that produces good shots in daylight; fast focusing and saving shots; camera interface very well-structured and comprehensive; the flash of good power allows some shots in most light conditions poor. Even without using the flash, the use of high ISO (up to about 1500iso) still allows you to take extreme emergency after all decent.
    - Good performance video
    - Secondary camera for Selfie 8Mpixel with face detection function, shots and discrete video
    .
    Bench:
Antutu 5.7.1 more than 30000 punti..risultato in line with that of other 615 CPU Snapdragon 1.5Ghz.
Geekbench 3 with 2260 points in multi-core test and 647 in the single-core test.
    https://browser.primatelabs.com/user/ 3909297
Geekbench Battery Test (over 5 hours and 30 'screen on time, a little low for a 3050mAh but enough for at least 4 hours of screen on the busy day of work with active data traffic.
    https://browser.primatelabs.com/battery3/ 138925

    Audio:
Good sound quality, good volumes of speaker and earpiece, the other party has no problem and feel the item is free from noise and interference or metallic effect.
Position of the speaker in the lower apt, although the presence of the second speaker for the stereo effect would have appreciated !.
Good vibe and the sound with headphones.

    Conclusion:

    PRO:

    - Price of 130 € for a terminal with characteristics of medium range 2Gb RAM / 16GB ROM and 5 "FullHD that if proposed by a brand known, would have cost twice as much.
    - Full HD screen that shows good brightness, color and viewing angle of the display (bright colors and deep black)
    - Good assembly, the materials used, the distribution of weight (130g) and the grip that gives the cover with knurled processing.
    - Good reception and good also the audio
    - Dual SIM (two slots micro sim) and MicroSD card support (tested support up to 64Gb)
    - Android 5.0.2 practically stock of 10 September 2015
    - Main camera from 13Mpixel f / 2.2 with good quality if good light and holds well even high ISO.
    - Battery 3050mAh from that in spite the snapdragon 615 and the Full HD screen will take you to end the day in an easy way.
    - Double tap to wake
    - GPS with Glonass + Baidu and presence magnetometer (compass) and Gyroscope
    - OTG supported
    - Led Notification and keys backlit soft touch side
    - Total identical to TCL M3G 3S, then Accessories / cover compatible those of the latter

    AGAINST:
    - SD card can not be set as memory for the installation of APP (photos and videos can be stored instead on sd)
    - Android 5.0.2 with some problems of fluidity of the interface and some acclaimed as the memory leak.
    - Presence of Chinese app One Cleaner "cleaning system" that makes the device slowed; simply best to remove it from the app.
    - 4G with these bands 1,3,7 (then is absent the band 20 to 800Mhz essential especially with the wind).
    - Some uncertainty in the fluidity of the interface and too general, which improves putting in developer mode animations 0.5xe GPU rendering and with the help of alternative launcher like Nova.
    - Unfortunately not practicable root trying different tools; Umi had accustomed us to the root of the factory and so in this case we were wrong

You wrote to type in terminal "setprop usb.sys.config diag" - that´s meant to be in linux, right? But I found QPST only for Windows available. So do I have to use Wine, will it work with the phone connected? Or is there another solution to get the eMax Mini into Diagnostic Mode? (< btw, is this FTM?)

That's meant to be in Android, via a terminal emulator in the phone, or adb shell.
The process should be done entirely in Windows. If you're using Windows 10, you will need to enable installation of unsigned drivers in order to use the ones available here.

I've written an extensive tutorial on how to do the whole process, but it's in Spanish. If you don't mind that (or trust in Google Translate), it's here. I might get around to translating it someday.

    1. What is QCN, QPST and QCN.
Oh, it's hard to describe in one post.
First, you need to get root, e.g. using this for PC: http://www.iroot.com/
    Download QPST from here.
QCN backup can be obtained similar to this instructions: http://sanfranciscoandroid.co.uk/an...-qpst-and-backup-qcn-orange-san-francisco-ii/
Enter this in terminal "su setprop usb.sys.config diag" and phone should switch to Diagnostic Mode. That's why you need root.
Do a modem backup before flashing LEWA!

    2. Where do I get Lewa 4.0
Here is Lewa 4.0 QFIL image.
LEWA ROM is supposed to be flashed via Download Mode (Power + VolUP, as I remember). You will need QFIL software from QPST package to flash it.
By doing this Umi Emax Mini will be converted to TCL M3G (same phones, different brands) .
    3. How to root Lewa? Is it possible to first flash TWRP and flash Supersu using TWRP. I already have TWRP. Do I need to flash it again after flashing Lewa. Or can I use TWRP to flash Lewa in the first place.
Root for LEWA, TWRP for LEWA, newer TWRP for LEWA with ability to backup modem partition, for installation from recovery .
You will need another TWRP for TCL M3G. After flashing LEWA ROM you will get factory like TCL M3G without custom recovery and root.
Restore QCN backup after flashing LEWA.

    4. What TCL CM12.1 rom did you have installed and what is your opinion of the performance.
I used this CM12.1 based ROM + Nano Gapps
    Original link: http://bbs.tclmobile.com.cn/thread-27518-1-1.html
Performance is good. Battery holds quite well. Not worse than with original ROM. I didn't run any tests, but phone is working fine and stable, without any problems. No freezes or reboots, everything is working like it should, stable.

All credits go to Chinese community http://bbs.tclmobile.com.cn/forum-138-1.html

    Good luck.
