r8ib.32xlarge

Analysis

The r8ib.32xlarge is a memory optimized instance in the r8ib series with 128 vCPUs and 1024 GiB of memory on Intel Xeon Scalable (Granite Rapids) (up to 3.9 GHz), which makes it memory-heavy at 8 GiB of memory per vCPU.

Within the same generation and size, the r8i.32xlarge on Intel Xeon Scalable (Granite Rapids) costs $8.89/hour, 34% less ($3,283 a month). The other variants are the r8id.32xlarge at $10.64, the r8in.32xlarge at $13.39 and the r8idn.32xlarge at $15.01.

Running it in N. Virginia instead of Tokyo saves $2,099 a month per instance: $13.39/hour against $16.26/hour, a 21% spread. It is not offered in Canada Central, São Paulo, London, Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney, so plan around that if you need a presence there.

Per vCPU it is one of the dearer memory optimized types: 79% of the 385 current types in the family cost less than its $0.1046 per vCPU-hour. The premium mostly pays for the extra memory per vCPU. On demand it is $13.39/hour in US East (N. Virginia), or $9,774 for a 730-hour month.

Looking beyond its own line, 10 of 14 current types with 128 vCPUs and similar memory are cheaper. The cheapest of those is the r6a.32xlarge on AMD EPYC 7R13 at $7.26/hour.
